YEAR 11 GRAPHICS COMPETITION - GUIDELINES

  • This competition is open to students from schools with financial members for the current year.
  • This competition is open to any student who is currently taking a Year 11 Graphics Course.
  • Maximum of two students per school.

The Year 11 Graphics competition will involve the students completing a simple design exercise in approximately 35 minutes using freehand sketching techniques. This will involve producing
  • Two Concept sketches
  • Development sketches
  • Rendered final presentation view.

Students will be working at a desk and will be provided with drawing paper, pencils, some coloured pencils, and an eraser.
The judging will take place immediately following the competition.
Students will have the opportunity to view the year 12 and 13 work at this time.

All awards will be presented on the night commencing at approximately 8-15pm.

YEAR 12 GRAPHICS COMPETITION - GUIDELINES

  • This competition is open to students from schools with financial members for the current year.
  • This competition is open to any student who is currently taking a year 12 Graphics Course
  • Students may enter one piece of work from the year 12 Graphics Syllabus in either category 1 or 2.
  • Work must be presented on free standing display boards A1 or SC Art card.
  • Students can present their work on any size sheets to fit each panel.

Panel one     DESIGN

On this panel the emphasis is for students to demonstrate the following skills

  • Design research
  • Concept sketching, Notes and design development.
  • Colour rendering techniques

Panel two     FORMAL DRAWINGS

On this panel the emphasis is for students to demonstrate the following skills.
One sheet (A3 or A2) formal orthographic, to show any or all of the following,

  • Projection
  • Linework
  • Dimensioning
  • Sectioning and auxiliary views
  • Lettering and printing standards

  • Note: Border, title block and logos may be in ink or colour to match other sheets.
  • Part drawings with parts list in either pencil or ink.
  • May include use of CAD.
  • Rendering may be incorporated to these drawing as deemed necessary.
Note: may be part of or all of the design.

Panel three     PRESENTATIONAL

On this panel students can exhibit other related skills or strengths they have to present their design eg.

  • CAD work
  • Photos of model or prototype
  • Perspective or axonometric drawings
  • Markers, air brushing or gauche etc.
Assessment
Panel one - 30%
Panel two - 30%
Panel three - 30%
Presentation - 10%
Total - 100%

Be sure to place on the outside of the front panel the following information.

  • Students name
  • Name and address of school
  • Copy of the Brief
  • Official entry form with student work verification.

YEAR 13 GRAPHICS COMPETITION - GUIDELINES

  • This competition is open to students from schools with financial members for the current year.
  • This competition is open to any student who is currently taking a year 13 Graphics Course
  • Students may enter one piece of work from the year 13 Graphics Syllabus
  • That is, one module of work from one only of the following sections:
  • A. Common Core
  • B. Architecture & associated Environmental Studies
  • C. Engineering & associated Technological Studies
  • D. Media and Technical Illustration Studies
Work may be displayed on three panels OR in a folio        
Panel one     DESIGN

In this part the emphasis is for students to demonstrate the following skills

  • Design research
  • Concept sketching, Notes and design development.
  • Colour rendering techniques

Panel two     FORMAL DRAWINGS

On this panel the emphasis is for students to demonstrate the following skills.

  • Projection

COMPETITION RULES
1. All entries must be accompanied by a completed official entry form.
2. All work must be presented in an A2 or A3 folder or on a free standing display board in modules of A1 size.
3. Drawings to be on A2 or A3 paper with no limit to the number of drawings.
  • Drawings may be pencil, ink, colour rendered on any drawing paper or film media.
  • One drawing in part two must be in orthographic projection.
  • CAD drawings may acccompany each entry. Verification of students own work required.
  • Models may accompany a project.
  • Design briefs are to be included.

Note : Any submissions using a CAD programme are to be orthographic and/or pictorial drawings that have been drawn by the student using a school installed CAD programme. Further work by a drawing wizard or other automated CAD system will be disqualified as it reduces the skill levels.

DECLARATION
A declaration on the entry form that the work is the students own, signed by the student and countersigned by the teacher as confirmation, must accompany the entry.

Judging criteria:
Interpretation & communication. Research & evaluation. Application of the design process and design elements,
Drawing & modelling skills and presentation.
Judges reserve the right to limit the number of prizes and or certificates awarded if entries do not reach an acceptable standard.
The judges decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
